4.2 Staffing Allocation
Food and Health & Safety
Competent o昀케cers are authorised according to the 昀椀ndings of competency
assessments based on quali昀椀cations, technical knowledge and regulatory experience.
Food competencies are assessed in accordance with the FSA’s Food Law Code of
Practice and Practice Guidance and the Competency Framework.
Our team’s current authorised regulatory allocated full time equivalent (FTE) sta昀케ng

Technical Leads, O昀케cial Veterinary Surgeons (OVSs) and Port Health O昀케cers (PHOs)
must be su昀케ciently quali昀椀ed and authorised according to the Food Law Code of Practice
(FLCoP) as key operational decisionmakers. The FLCoP also permits more limited
decision-making responsibilities for Authorised O昀케cers (AO) following training and
competency assessments.
