6.0 Review
6.1 Review against the Service Plan
Managers are responsible for ongoing reviews throughout the year and key reporting on the
delivery of the services to the Head of Service and via brie昀椀ngs with the Portfolio Holder of
Community Health.
The provision of the Council’s “business-as-usual” tasks and projects are monitored, recorded
and reviewed against its Our Direction 2028 Strategic Plan.
Food and Health & Safety Service Plans reviews and reports on the delivery of services are
submitted to Full Council for review and adoption. The last Food Safety and Health & Safety
Service Plan adopted was for 2024/25 and contained a review of 2023/24. This Service Plan
reviews 2024/25. It will be presented to East Su昀昀olk’s Full Council on 16 July 2025.
Food and Health & Safety
In the Food and Safety Team comparisons between the Food and Health & Safety Service
Plans of 2024/25 and 2025/26 have shown some variances but nothing signi昀椀cant.
The total number of food establishments slightly reduced from 2873 in on 1 April 2024 to
2745 on 1 April 2025.
The number of food interventions due in 2024/25 was 810 and 806 are due in 2025/26.
Although, con昀椀rmed cases of gastrointestinal infections remain low in East Su昀昀olk,
salmonella in 2024/25 had increased to 45 from 22 cases in 2023/24. In 2024/25 we have
added the 昀椀gures for cryptosporidium for East Su昀昀olk.
An increase was found in the business satisfaction survey when 85% of the 123
responses in 2024/25 agreed that they were fairly treated, and contact was helpful and
clear - in 2023/24 this 昀椀gure was 75-80% of the 111 responses.
The percentage of required food interventions that were achieved in 2024/25 has
increased, with the greatest increases in the number of D and E rated interventions with
a 14% and 15% increase from 2023/24 respectively. This was due to less interventions
being due in 2024/25, as in 2023/24 there was a backlog to catch up on due to COVID-19.
Overall, the inspection numbers achieved in 2024/25 were less at 1,112 when 1,504 were
completed in 2023/24. As shown above the number food interventions due in 2025/26 is
broadly the same as 2024/25. This should mean the same compliance rate is achievable.
