6.2 Identification of any Variation from
the Service Plan
Food and Health & Safety
Two Lead Food and Safety O昀케cers have been appointed to oversee operational
management of the Food and Safety Team’s functions. The Food and Safety
Team Manager undertakes a more strategic role than previously.
Suffolk Coastal Port Health Authority
Su昀昀olk Coastal Port Health Authority (SCPHA) has experienced signi昀椀cant variance
since 2020 while responding to and recovering from the e昀昀ects of the Covid-19
pandemic.
The implementation of the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM), has widened
the scope of commodities subject to controls, and introduced a risk-based approach
to these. With the evolving import control regime and the variation introduced by a
risk based approach, SCPHA have to be dynamic in their approach, and whilst there
is no variation to their core mission and requirements, variation to activities to meet
the evolving demands are expected.
Corporate Health and Safety
The Council’s workforce has continued to increase in size with more diverse work
activities. The Corporate Health and Safety Team has been 昀氀exible and able to support
teams through new ways of working.
The Health and Safety Advisors work with and alongside team leaders throughout
the year. The Annual Cycle requires certain tasks to be completed within a speci昀椀ed
calendar month which allows for e昀昀ective monitoring of deviation from compliance.
